ASBERRY SCHOOL OF MUSIC
STUDIO POLICIES 2009-2010
TUITION/FEES
A one-time, non-refundable fee of $25 per family is due at the time of registration.
Your monthly tuition payments reserve a block of the instructor’s time on a regular basis and do not pay for individual lessons. Therefore, monthly fees remain the same regardless of the number of lessons received in a specific month.
Each student is scheduled to receive 40 lessons (including three workshops) over the course of 11 months (August through June). Families with two or more students enrolled in Asberry School of Music pay the family rate indicated in parenthesis.
30-minute weekly private lesson $100 ($95 family rate) per month
45-minute weekly private lesson $142.50 per month
60-minute weekly private lesson $190 per month
45-minute weekly partner/group lesson $80 ($75 family rate) per month
In addition, you will be billed for any music purchased for use by the student and any applicable event fees (usually $10-$25). Bills will be sent or e-mailed monthly and are due in advance by the last day of each month for the following month. Accounts paid after the 15thof the month will be subject to a $25 late fee. Please make checks payable to Pam Asberry.
ATTENDANCE
The time scheduled for each student’s lesson is reserved for his or her exclusive use; there will be no make-up lessons except in the event of serious or extended illness or teacher absence. A copy of my teaching schedule and a student phone list is available at groups.yahoo.com/group/asberryschoolofmusic. In the event that you are unable to attend a lesson, please refer to these and attempt to switch lesson times with another student. There will be no refunds given for missed lessons.
Students should arrive at each lesson well prepared and with all necessary materials. Time will not be taken from the following lesson to accommodate late arrivals.
PRACTICE
Consistent daily practice without distractions is essential. For maximum development, students should practice according to the following schedule:
30-minute lessons—15-30 minutes daily
45-minute lessons—30-45 minutes daily
60-minute lessons—60-90 minutes daily
STUDIO WORKSHOPS
Three times a year, a week is devoted to studio workshops in lieu of private lessons. Students are grouped by age, grade and performance level into small groups. Groups encourage camaraderie, performance experience, and provide a venue to focus on music and performance related topics. Students motivate each other, support each other with constructive comments, and become better listeners.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Performance opportunities for all students include concerts at area assisted living centers, studio workshops, and an annual studio recital. Advancing students may also be invited to participate master classes with prominent composers and pianists such as David Nevue, Joseph Akins and Stanton Lanier, and others.
EVALUATION FESTIVALS, AUDITIONS, ENSEMBLE CONCERT, & OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS
Festivals, auditions and other local events are a wonderful and stimulating addition to musical training at any playing level. They provide goals, challenges and different arenas in which students can enjoy and develop their skills. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in several evaluation events each year, including National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival, as well as a variety of non-competitive events, such as Gwinnett County Music Teachers Association Ensemble Concert.
PARENT PARTICIPATION
Parents are always welcome to accompany students to lessons and to assist students in practicing at home.
It is important to keep your instruments well maintained and in tune. If you are in need of a piano technician, I recommend contact Holly Ross at Southern Keyboards (770-953-0938).
SAFETY POLICY
Students may be dropped off (no more than five minutes prior to scheduled lesson start time) but should be picked up promptly after their lessons, unless special arrangements have been made. It is not the responsibility of the studio to supervise children outside of their lesson times.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS
A minimum of thirty days’ notice is required prior to termination of lessons. The teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons when the student is irregular in attendance, repeatedly fails to prepare assigned material, has behavior or attitude problems, or does not pay tuition or other expenses in a timely manner.
